I live on 90 Hui F Road, Napili. Is this part of your land?

    1. Lanakila Says:

      Aloha Wainani;
No it is not part of our claims. I beleive that area was origianlly awardee to Konia. Upon her death those lands were given to her daughter, Bernice Pauahi. Bernice didvided them into hui lands. These included lands in Napili 1,2,3,4, Aleloa, Honokeana and Mailepai. Some, not all of these shares were acquired by MLP. But most remained in the families. However we can see that those families didnt know that right? Also some argue that since the lands were never partioned and all the owners held an undivided interest then they still own it. From what I have learned and have come to understand it is the heirs of the orignal awardee that has the vested rights. I am not a lawyer but have spent much time learning and studying and now applying the laws. Fortunately for us the group Hui Pono I Ke Kanawai is taking the time to share with all of us the truth.
Mahalo for looking over our blog. A hui hou Lanakila

Good Job! Let me know of any support you may need. O volunteer at Olelo On Oahu and we are from the Palolo Media Center. We have producers and Directors that put out numerous shows on this topic to get the word out. I also have a personal claim myself for the lands on the big Island which belonged to my Ancestor Chief Mamane Keawemauhili. I would appreciate any information on where to start my journey to recover from Hamakua Sugar and Parker Ranch…

    1. Lanakila Says:

Aloha; What a fantastic offer! We will talk about doing something and get back to you. I will send you information on how to get your hanahana organized and started. It can be done and if you are feeling that then it will be easy because your Kupuna are knocking at your door and saying “hey come on lets get going!!! we didn’t do all that work for nothing”. So lets open the door!

  3. Ron Says:

    Aloha,

Funny how things work, there are a few of us in Kona and that are on the same track as you folks, only with Bishop Estate. We have a few ideas, not really part of any group or organization, just a couple of anuties and uncles with solid paperwork and research.

    1. Lanakila Says:

Aloha Ron; That’s how it starts! If you like I will send you what we have done with MLP in a more detailed manner and how we applied the laws. Stay together talk together holo mua together. Our Kupuna are calling us to stand up and make right what went wrong. The Mahele was designed to help us avoid becoming destitute in our own country. They did not realize how pilau mea we would encounter. But still they put in place the perfect laws to keep their(our) lands safe until today. We are in the process of peeling away all the opala the haole (foreigner) went throw on top. Thats all. The haole ma counted on their deception to keep us blind and hold us down but they never understood the mana in the truth! Let me know if youfolks want to look at what we used more closely. We be happy to share. And jus tto let oyu know we doing some work on Molokai with Bishop Estate!

  4. Hawaii has a dual recordation system – Bureau of Conveyances and Land Court.

ISSUE: If land is subject to Land Court registration under HRS Chapter 501 is a land transfer required to be recorded in the Land Court? If the answer to the foregoing question is ‘Yes’ what is the legal status of a land transfer recorded solely at the Bureau of Conveyances?

    ****

“In Hawaii, a private owner’s use must be consistent with other customs, so long as they were exercised every year from time immemorial” and in a peaceful manner. * Royal patents confirmed only a limited property interest, not the exclusivity contained in western fee simple titles. Pelayo said some people have even argued that this means that titles not originating in royal patents — that is, those recorded in the Land Court — may not have a legal existence.”

    A hint:

    CODE OF ORDINANCES
    County of MAUI, HAWAII

    Title 3 REVENUE AND FINANCE

    Chapter 3.48 REAL PROPERTY TAX

    3.48.255 Registered land.

If the land has been registered in the land court, the director shall also send by registered mail a notice of the proposed sale to any person holding a mortgage or other lien registered in the office of the assistant registrar of the land court. The notice shall be sent to any such person at his last address as shown by the records in the office of the registrar, and shall be deposited in the mail at least forty-five days prior to the date set for the sale.

    1. Lanakila Says:

Aloha Mr. Hasegawa; Mahalo for the “hint”! It does provide another piece of the puzzle. I am a firm beleiver that what is happening is happening because it is tiem for all the puzzle pieces to come to the table so we cn have a complete picture. With that information thigns can be made right for everyone. Again mahalo. Oh and I am sending that all the people who are working together to reclaim their lands.

  5. Simone Says:

Do you know who actually owns the land that is across from Napili Market where Maui Preparatory Academy is where they used to grow pineapples?
I am joining a community organic garden project there.

    Mahalo

    1. Lanakila Says:

      Aloha;
Sorry it took so ong to answer your question. By HRS 172 those lands belong tot eh Heirs of Konia. However, since that law is being circumvented and those lands belong to numerous other owners. When Konia died her daughter Bernice Pauhi BIshop inherieted these lands. She in turn divided and deeded them to more than 30, I think more than 50 actually, I dont have that paperwork wiht me right now but do ahve it so if you would like to get that exact let me know, I can even give you the names of these individuals. Each person received an interest in each ahupuaa. Some of these indivduals did sell their interest in one or more ahupuaa to MLP. BUt not ven half of them. Maui Land and Pineapple just moved onto all the lands. So today the heirs of those who did not sell still maintain ownership, just dont know it. Since they do still own everyone has an undivided interest. Therefore MLP can not legally lease or transfer any opf these lands…but they are and get away wiht ti because people are not aware. There are soem people prepare a federal case as we speak to take MLP to court to clear up this matter. Hope this helps you. Even thoug they recently “gave” title to Maui Prep that will be invalid as will all other titles they “transferred” or leases

      1. Wainani Kealoha Says:

Please do send me the information on this land!

      2. Kanani Says:

I have ohana who received parcels through Mailepai Hui, Konia’s Kuleana on Napili 1 and 2. My GGMa passed, along with tutu and Mom. Now I have to contend with the legal issues of the land. Any help is greatly appreciated. I currently reside on the mainland.
        Mahalo,
        Kanani

      3. Lanakila Says:

What are the issues? If you can tell me whats going on I might be able to point you in the right direction..aloha

  6. Bob Ornellas Says:

My wife and children are all descendents of Antone Sylva, how does this affect them?

    1. Lanakila Says:

If you have time to meet I would be happy to explain what I have found I know your post is old but I had manymany things going on so if yu still nterested please let me know

      1. Bob Ornellas Says:

Yes, thank you, I would be very, very interested in knowing more about what you have found.

  7. Kanani Says:

I happen to be a member of a family who lives in Napili. I have been searching (from California) for the land transactions for the Hui Lands. My mother passed away last year and since her passing, my immediate O’hana needs to take care of things….can you help? The land was Handed down to L. Konia and that’s as far I got, then there was a court proceeding in equity court on the division of lands. Mahalo

    1. Lanakila Says:

You need to have a title search done..yes the lands went from Konia to Bernice. Bernice then dividie it into hui lands…all five ahupuaa. so if you have a share in one you more than likely have a share int eh others A title search would help you know the rest.

  8. Wainani Kealoha Says:

I reside at 90 Hui road F & the “owner” is foreclosing with Bank of Hawaii. What can I do to make a claim? Iʻve been paying the guy for the last 2 years & now he says the bank is taking it over. Have I been scammed?
    A reply would be appreciated.
    Mahalo,
    Wainani

  9. Chassidy Says:

    Aloha Lanakila,
My name is chassidy and I was very moved by your passion in getting your rightful land back. My question to you is do you know about land in Honokohau Valley. Does Maui Land & Pineapple own the land or even the water rights?

    1. Lanakila Says:

Aloha Chassidy….I know quite a but about Honokohau vlley lands and the large surrouning parcel that MLP claims to own. They do no own the 7000 acres surrounding Honokohau valley and that has been established. It belongs to the Heirs of Moses Kekuaiwa, my family are heirs along with many others. The water rights dont belong to them either and very shortly we will have that straightened out. Is there a particuar parcel or aprcels you are interested in. Does you family own land in the alley? Please dont hesitate to let me know what is going on and if I can help you and your ohana I will….aloha

  10. Chassidy Says:

Do you have the geneology of Moses Kekuaiwa until now? I have been doing some research but honestly it has not gotten me anywhere. If you can help me with this i would strongly appreciate it!
    Mahalo!

    1. Lanakila Says:

Ok let me ask you this is it his parcel you are interested? And how do you think you connect to him?  There are several branches to him your answers would make it easier to see what you need

  11. Lehau Bailey Says:

    Aloha Lanikila,

I am Lehau Bailey great great grandson of Kaopua Kaahaku and of grandson to tutu Violet Keanini Bailey. My question is besides MLP there are individuals other family heirs who worked togehter with MLP on developing their own undivided int. on the side. They are 3rd parties. My tutu past away long before she is the first party. My family are stuck now because maps were forged and changed. We really would like to know how to obtain the real ahupuaa map and where the rightful exact heirs of the land in HONOKOHAU should be on. WE ARE ALL RELATED SOMEHOW BUT STILL WE NEED TO WORK TOGETHER AND MOVE FORWARD TO PROTECT AND PRESERVE THE RIGHTS OF THE LAND FOR THE NEXT GENERATION.We have deeds and royal patents. But its not the same with the new Maui County Maps.Aloha and mahalo,Lehau

    1. Lanakila Says:

Aloha, I have a map that shows the LCA’s. I have no way of knowing if it is comlete but have tried to check it off agnaist the mahele book. I would love to meet wiht youa nd share it. I do know that there where Kaahaku in the valley for sure though. where do you live???

    2. Lanakila Says:

Can you email me at willard@maui.net Will get it quicker

  12. Lehau Bailey Says:

    Aloha, Lanikila

One of the parcel is across of your parcel. I did not realize that you also have land in honokohau.Just got back from Oahu, went to search up on more on Maui Land and Pineapple claiming land in Honokohau valley.Found out that other cooperations are also involve, other people who are not from the valley are putting up a front that they will restore the valley by growing taro again.Thats fine but no n eed to put a quick claim on parcels that don’t belong to them. Just work the taro.
As soon as my tutu past in 1986 if you check all the records tings started to change.Forgery of land quick claims came about. Also you will see the same peoples names on lots of parcels in the valley together with MLP.If you know the roots of the valley this is not the way it was.Somehow all the real family owners need to hui up and come together and restucture the valley. Things have been hidden hush hush, and kept a secret. The families in the valley knows what really happened in their, but because of threats, false accusations, bullied around cooperations came in, they kept there mouth shut.Whether or not the blood line families will come home to thier rightful place to work together of taking care of their land and put it back in its rightful restoration.People and entities who are doing bad in the valley will be exposed to society. This is not the only valley that is going through this, its all over hawaii.

Please give your number or i can meet with u anytime anyplace. They made there move now its time for us to do as well.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is hard to find people who can trust! Before you know it they are all in this too with cooperations. The truth will come out sooner or later.
